You know that old saying "the calm before the storm" - well... I am now finding myself very calm after the storm. I've also been thinking of quality vs. quantity. The time with my pops was way too short, but we were able to have the most quality time together. Since his passing I've been to London for a shoot, back to LA, then to NY for shoot, back to LA, then to Paris for a shoot, then back to LA... The common dominator here has been BACK TO LA.

All during this time I've been pondering moving to France for part of the year. I spend so much time there I might as well have a place.. So the search begins.

On the work front. Keep an eye out for the following jobs I have coming out. I'm super excited!

Someone called me an "adult orphan" the other day and it really struck me. Losing one parent is tough to handle, but losing both can be devastating. A devastation is not what my parents would have wanted. What they would want is for me to carry on their legacy. To see the sheer beauty in being of service and to cherish the little things in life.

I sit here missing both of them more than words could ever express. I feel so blessed that my father who had never been on a plane in 83 years mustered the courage to come to LA to be with me. I am convinced that he came out just to see for himself that my daughter and I were okay. Once he realized that he gently let go. I am thrilled that he is with my mother somewhere out there, but I have to admit I am missing the morning call asking if I am okay. I have a few of his voicemails still on my phone just so I can hear his voice.

One thing is for sure... I was definitey a Daddy's little girl.

If your parents are still with you.... hug them... cherish every last second.

I am so happy my father is here with me, although it's really hard to witness him leaving. I'm savoring each and every moment. I am coming to realize how much he has given me in my life.

I really believe that blood doesn't bind two people.. only a lifetime and love do. This man adopted me as a child and it amazes me how much we resemble each other.

ANXIOUS

I am sitting at my computer tracking United Airlines flight 6443. I've been tracking it since it left Oklahoma City. It has the most precious cargo and I'm eagerly awaiting their arrival. My partner in work and life left LA yesterday to bring my father to be with us here in LA. My pops was put on Hospice care a few weeks back and I was told he has less than 6 months to live. We all felt that it was better that he come spend his time in our home with us. I have to be honest... this scares the living daylights out of me, but at the same time I know in my heart this will be a positive life changing event for everyone involved. He really is one of the funniest men I have ever met and has a heart of gold. His mind is completely there it's just that his 83 year old body is failing him. I am just forever grateful to Rock for giving me this gift... to spend the rest of my fathers life with him. My heart is completely full right now.

He has never been on a plane before, so this trip is going to be hard on him.... Rock called me and said that he was amazed at his courage. They will be here soon and I cannot wait!

I'm off to the airport to greet two of the greatest men I have ever met.

My heart is healing and I feel a softer side of myself appearing. I sat next to my fathers bedside for the past 4 days. His body is failing him, but his mind is totally there. We laughed so much that my stomach started to hurt. Rock did tricks in his wheelchair as my pops looked on with a .. you are going to bust your ass kind of grin.

Wow.. It's been a long time since I've updated this blog. My apologies!! Life has definitely been in session. I'm heading back to France and can hardly wait! There's something about that country that feeds my soul. It goes beyond words. I've also been studying the French language. I have a tutor 3x a week plus I'm studying an hour each night. You would think I am bound to get this!

If you are a mother I strongly suggest you have your children learn other languages. It's so hard to pick up as an adult and I sure wish I would have done this as a kid.

You can call me mellow yellow today and it will fit me perfectly! This summer I've traveled to France for a mini vacation and a bit of work. Jumped straight from there to shoot the Fall 2010 Calvin Klein campaign. Back to LA I had the pleasure of working with the Jill Stuart team again for the their Fall 10 campaign and then I was off to Dallas to shoot Neimans Back to School.

Busy bee and feeling blessed beyond words! Looks like I'll be heading back to France and will stay for a month. Yeah!

What an adventure! We are heading back to LA tonight and I can't wait to get home and see my daughter and Mr. Luke man. It's been an amazing trip and I have once again realized just how blessed I am in this life. The gratitude I am feeling is overwhelming! I have also come to realize that along this journey of being "busy" that I haven't been nurturing friendships that I made when I first started this path. It's time to reconnect!

As of late I have really been thinking about the word perception... A mental image... Ever since I was a child I've always had this vivid imagination about what your life was like and how you lived it... Often times I would find out that I was way off base, but would still love the mental image that I had created. I loved it so much that I would choose to keep that and ignore the reality. I find that I do that to this day...

Displaying ones emotions dramatically... Emote... I have felt a bit constrained lately in my work and I decided a few weeks back that I just need to let it rip. There's a fine line you cross once you start working in the commercial world. That line is well defined and has many limits, but can give you freedom with monetary compensation. Finding the balance of staying true to your art and trying not to insult people is a game that I basically suck at.

It's been raining for what seems like forever in LA. The first couple of days were lovely, but now...well.. I'm over it.

1. Rise with the sun to pray. Pray alone. Pray often. The Great Spirit will listen, if you only speak.

2. Be tolerant of those who are lost on their path. Ignorance, conceit, anger, jealousy and greed stem from a lost soul. Pray that they will find guidance.

3. Search for yourself, by yourself. Do not allow others to make your path for you. It is your road, and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.

4. Treat the guests in your home with much consideration. Serve them the best food, give them the best bed and treat them with respect and honor.

5. Do not take what is not yours whether from a person, a community, the wilderness or from a culture. It was not earned nor given. It is not yours.

6. Respect all things that are placed upon this earth - whether it be people or plant.

So I'm sitting in what has quickly become my favorite place for breakfast and I see these kids. The little girl was hilarious. She was making her brother pose for her. How smart is she to already know what she wants to do with her life. She directed him very well and even got a little pissed when he didn't perform as directed.

Rule of thumb... always carry your camera wherever you go. I use the Canon G10 when I don't want to carry around my huge beast.

I've been in Paris for the last few days and have been amazed at how the French are so different with children and elders than we are in the states. It's so hard to put into words, but it's different. I know for a fact that I don't want to be old living in Los Angeles. It's so sad, but you don't really see old people in LA. It's as if they have them under lock and key somewhere and if they are seen it would tarnish the reputation of LA. So very sad. Children.. well what I've witnessed in Paris are kids running, playing and laughing OUTSIDE! Unheard of in the states or at least where I've been. Kids are so jaded these days and sit in front of the TV. Another thing.. so very sad.

I find that I haven't been "naughty" in quite some time. I'm in the process of building my commercial reel. I put the kids in a small room and didn't direct them one bit. We basically put them in the room and shut the door and left them in there for almost 3 minutes each. It was so intriguing to watch how they handled themselves. I find myself watching it over and over again.

I wish there was a category "exhausted" because that's exactly what I feel right now. Jesus! I did a 5 mile hike up to Duck Lake in Mammoth with an elevation of 11000 feet. Yep, I'm nuts.. I also decided to carry my 8 pound camera up the entire time. Pure insanity. All and all I am way impressed that I actually pulled this one off.

Wow.. the last two days has made my head spin a bit. I've been shooting like a mad woman these days. I have a new little thing that I've been working on and will share as soon as I feel like its there. You can definitely say that I've been bitten by a bug on this one. Can't stop thinking about it.. Part of the master plan is shooting over 40 kids this Sunday in a studio. Stop and think about this one.. 40 kids + 1 parent each. That's 80 people in a space. Yikes!

I love this kind of stuff! Let the fun begin!

I'm heading to Europe soon to shoot my little Thylane. This time I'm going alone. My plan is to head to Milan, Paris, St. Tropez and have my base in Villefranche. My home away from home. There's something about that place that I can't put into words.. so I will go and bring you back photos.

I've been feeling a bit notorious as of late and have definitely been slacking on the Facebook front. Had a few fantastic shoots over the last couple of days. More on those in a bit. I decided to get out of my comfort zone a bit and head down to the Six Man in Manhattan Beach. What a crazy mess that was. The delight was in seeing one of my sweet models Bella. She's amazing... I haven't seen her in about 4 months and her mother was gracious enough to let me park in her driveway. Let me just tell you that you don't want to own a car in this town during the Six Man. Or, for that matter, ever! NY is definitely onto something. UGH...

Bella and I headed down to the beach to watch Kirk play. Afterwards Bella and her mom made me Chocolate Chip Pancakes. Life doesn't get better than that!
